Fire and Ice Festival in Columbia City, Saturday and Sunday

Tomorrow morning our mascot “Ficey”, and our mascot contest naming winner- Malerie Nix will kick-off the Fire & Ice WinterFest by arriving to the Whitley County Downtown Square on a Fire Truck. Thanks to the Columbia City Fire Department. This will happen at 9am tomorrow, Saturday January 22.  The Mayor will also be present to congratulate Malerie, and welcome everyone to the WinterFest 2011.

The Business Ice Carvings will take shape on Saturday around the Square, and participating downtown businesses from 9am- 3pm.

The Snowflake 5K starts at 11am. We have nearly 70 runners and walkers pre-registered, with day of registration as well.  The Start/ Finish line is in front of the Courthouse along Van Buren Street.

The Hot Pepper and Ice Cream eating contest begins at Noon on Saturday, in The Center. There will be a youth division, adult division, and also a County officials division. The county officials participating are: Tom Rethlake, Kim Wheeler, Mike Barton, Amy Crickmore, Dom Amber & George Schrumps.

On Sunday, the Ice Carvers Competitions runs from 12- 3pm around the Courthouse Square.  The winner of the ice carving competition will be announced at 3pm.

The Chili Cook-Off Challenge will be at The Center from 12- 2:30pm. Participating (so far) are: Eddie Beagles (2010 champ), Bob Hoffman, Jon Kelley, Janet Hindbaugh, Columbia City Fire Department, Northside Grill, Sherri’s Place, and Moyer’s Corner Café.  We will “crown” Whitley County’s BEST CHILI at 3pm with a trophy, certificate, and a donation they can present to the Charity of their Choice.
