South Whitley Public Library Events

February
Snowmen @ Night
The Month of February
Everyone is invited to participate in our annual winter reading program titled “Snowmen @ Night”.  For each item you check out and return you will receive a snowman.  Tell us if you are a child or adult, give us your name and phone number, and then put the snowman in the basket. 
March  we will draw for the prizes.

Meet Me Under the Tree Storytime 
 Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. & Wednesdays at
10:30 a.m. in February
Children ages 2-5 can meet with Miss Meghan under the tree as she takes you on some great adventures with songs, finger plays, stories and games!  Best of all, it’s free! This year’s story time theme is “Numbers and ABCs!” 
Register in the children’s department. 

M&M Read
 Mondays at 4 p.m. in February
3rd -5th graders meet with Miss Meghan in the kid’s room for M&Ms and an awesome story with Miss Meghan. Free candy, free story, what more can you ask for?
We will NOT meet on February 14! XOXOXO

Classics @ the Library
Wednesday, February 2nd at 1 p.m.
Join us as we begin showing “Classics @ the Library”.  This program will kick-off with the movie “Lover Come Back,” starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day.  This movie was one of the most successful collaboration of these two actors and tells of an advertising man, his job challenged by a determined advertising woman, who invents a sensational publicity campaign for a non-existent product called VIP. Free popcorn and drinks provided!

Homeschool Playdate
Wednesday, February 2nd at 1 p.m.
This is a time for your child to meet for some playtime or share a story with others in the children’s room.  Parents can share and swap ideas with one another about things they are teaching their children. Come and talk to the South Whitley Area Homeschool Group (SWAHG) during this time as well.

South Whitley’s Got Talent Finals
Thursday, February 3rd at 6 p.m.
This will be the last round of finding our most popular talent in the South Whitley area. We will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. We will need participants in the audience to cast their votes. So, if your talent is recognizing other people’s talents, come on down! This competition is being sponsored by TAB.
Vend-Her-Happy
Saturday, February 5th
Area businesses will have booths displaying their products and services.  Come in and see if you can find that perfect Valentine’s Day gift! With chocolates, fine cakes and cookies, jewelry, makeup and more, you can be certain you’ll find something for that special someone!

Family Movie Marathon- Twilight Movies
Saturday, February 5th starting at 10 a.m.
We will be showing the movie, Twilight at 10 a.m. The 2nd movie, New Moon, will be showing at 12:15 p.m., and the 3rd movie, Eclipse, will be showing at 2:30 p.m.  Free refreshments provided!

Kidz Rock
Wednesday, February 9th at 4 p.m.
Children grades K- 2nd will meet together downstairs with Miss Meghan to make chocolates!!  Mmmmmm!

TAB -Teen Advisory Board
Thursday, February 10th at 6 p.m.
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will be meeting with Miss Meghan.

Check Mate Chess Club
Saturday, February 12th at 10:30 a.m.
Chess players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend the Chess Mate Chess Club at the SWPL. The fun starts at 10:30 and runs until the last pawn is moved. This club meets on the second Saturday of each month.

Family Movie Day- Movies With Your Valentine
Saturday, February 12th starting at 10 a.m.
Spend the day with your valentine as you enjoy some light romantic  comedy.  We will showing the movies, Lake House starring Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves at 10 a.m., Come September starring Rock Hudson and Gina Lolobrigida, at 12 p.m., and Sweet Home Alabama starring Reese Witherspoon and  Patrick Dempsey, at 2 p.m.  Popcorn will be provided.

Camera Club
Tuesday, February 15th at 6 p.m.
Join other camera enthusiasts as they share ideas and techniques.  This month they will also be learning more from the “Camera Fundamentals” DVD series.

Page Turner’s
Tuesday, February 15th

The book for discussion this month is “Still Alice”,
by Lisa Genova. 
Pick up your copy at the library.

Tweenz Rock
Wednesday, February 16th at 4 p.m.
Children grades 3rd - 6th will be making chocolate candies with Miss Meghan.

Book Buddies for Infants
Thursday, February 17th at 10 a.m.
Infants 8 weeks – 18 months can register to attend the special time of reading in the children’s library. This is a free program and each child receives a new book.

Book Buddies
Thursday, February 17th at 10:30 a.m.
Children ages 3 – 5 can register for this program.  Each family will receive a free book and during the parent session, adults will discover ways to promote early literacy in the home and help prepare their child for school. 
Best of all, this program is FREE! Contact Miss Meghan or pick up a brochure and registration form in the Children’s department.

Ebay Class
Tuesday, February 22nd at 6 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to get rid of some of your treasures but you just weren’t sure how to go about it?  Well, this is your chance.  Vickie will be showing you the steps to post your items on ebay.

Euchre
Wednesday, February 23rd at 1 p.m.
For anyone at least 55 years young who enjoys playing euchre with a fun group.  Snacks will be provided!

Basket Class – Part 2
Thursday, February 24th at 6 p.m.
This is a continuation of the Blanket Basket class begun in January.

Family Game Night
Thursday, February 24th at 6 p.m.
Bring the whole family down and enjoy some quality time together by playing games!  Refreshments provided!!
